WE ARE GETTING BETTER EVERY DAY!

This is our latest new and improved newsletter format. After a long search Newsletter Ease stepped up to help us with our newsletter problems. Look for new and exciting announcements every month. We plan on keeping everyone informed with what is happening. We did have to buy the software for a reduced cost. We are looking for a newsletter sponsor. That would entitle the supporting business/individual a permanent link/graphic at the bottom of our newsletter. Call Chad Groover to submit a bid at (610) 778-0576 or email him at cgroover@campcompass.org. Bids will be accepted until April 1st, 2003. The highest donor will then be notified and posted on our newsletters.

PHEASANT PURSUIT
[image]
Dianna Martin and Jenna Snyder recently share a pheasant hunt with an outdoor mentor Tom Fegely. Tom is a noted outdoor writer for The Morning Call and Various magazines. The hunt was donated by Larry Bittner from Wild Wings preserve in Kempton, PA. The weather was extremely bitter but that didn't stop the girls from having an exciting day. It was such a great event that Tom wrote an article on the hunt for The Morning Call on Sunday February 2nd. The article can be searched at the morning call's website. To see where we hunted go to
bittnerswildwings.com
A week after our pheasant hunt found Tom Fegely at our Academy preparing to do a feature story about Camp Compass. The story was in the Adventures section of The Morning Call on Sunday, February 17th. Go to http://www.mcall.com

POLICE OFFICER VISITS THE ACADEMY
[image]
Officer Mark Hanna, Trexler Middle School's resource officer was our latest guest speaker at the Academy. His 50 minute presentation included his role as a community officer, a sample day, the role of firearms in his life and a very lively question and answer session. Officer Hanna was very impressed by the students behavior and the physical appearance of the center. Camp Compass prides itself on being able to build relationships with good role models that can carry over into the regular school.

CAMP COMPASS THANKS ITS EDUCATIONAL SUPPORTERS

On January, 29th five of our students with the guidance of Educational Manager Laura Miller put together what might of been the best Teacher Breakfast ever at Trexler. As a way of thanking the faculty of Trexler Middle school for all of their help and support some students of Camp Compass elected to come in on their day off and set up and serve a number of morning goodies. It was nice to see such a great turn out of teachers, administrators and office staff. All in all about 60 adults took part in the breakfast. What a way to spread the word and say thanks all at the same time

TIDBITS

Frances Lombart was the runner up in the school spelling bee. We are all very proud to have her as part of our student body. By this time next year she'll be a Travel Team member and we're looking forward to her field reports being done with no spelling errors.

Honor Role Congratulations to:
Camron Hernandez
Amy Romberger

A number of our Academy students entered the PA Wildlife Federations "Nature in My Neighborhood" contest. An agreement between the staff and students came up with a unique reward. If the Camp Compass students can come up with a combined $100.00 in prize money, students that participated would be allowed to have an overnight film festival at the Academy. We'll have to wait and see just how the students did.

Special thanks to our new scratch a dot sponsors:
Willie Joe's Doggies
All-Pro Plumbing
Salon Estea
Valley Antiques & Gifts
Computer Warehouse Outlet
Penn Pizza
