Pennsylvania Taxidermy Association

Once again it was time to take the 31/2 hour ride to Altoona for a very special day. For the past 4 years the Pennsylvania Taxidermy Association has honored our Travel Team Students with mounts of their harvests. This year five students made the journey to the Altoona Convention Center and shared their experiences with taxidermists from across the state of Pennsylvania. While at the show the students were able to attend the competition exhibit and vote for their favorite piece. furthermore they were able to speak with vendors from across the country about the roles they play in the taxidermy business. Another highlight was the donation made by Van Dykes. The PTA has agreed to continue to foster our mission by providing mounts free of charge if the designated student meets a criteria set by Camp Compass. Van Dykes found out about the program and donated ten manikins and eyes for future student mounts. Talk about a winning weekend. The students will get their mounts upon completion of their field reports for the Altoona Trip. Even though our students received their mounts we still hold them accountable for their academic reporting.

Dr. Suess Night

Educational manager, Joe Fiorito, a kindergarten teacher at Midway Manor School in Allentown was able to put our students to good use at their Dr. Suess night. The seven girls attending had the special job of painting youngsters faces. Dr. Suess stories were read to all the children and there was even a opportunity to have some photos taken with the Cat in the Hat. Overall, our girls were instrumental in painting over 80 faces and were able to take part in a night that will be remembered by the children for a long time.

SCI LEHIGH VALLEY BANQUET

Three of our younger members were invited to spend an evening at the Lehigh Valley Safari Club International fundraising Banquet. They were treated to a wide array of foods and even participated in the $100.00 truck drawing raffle. Furthermore Jimmy Pagounadis from BIG DADDY FURS was so impressed with the girls he donated a mink key chain to each student and a red fox hat to our fundraising banquet. While there the girls ere able to learn about the different types of auctions and even talked professional auctioneer Jamie Lovins into coming to our academy to teach the verbal auctioneering techniques

LEHIGH VALLEY OUTDOOR SHOW

Camp Compass Academy had a chance to show its work to hundreds of people at the Lehigh Valley Expo. Center. While there students were able to talk with business owners from across the state and country. We had the opportunity to run a silent auction with the help of Walt Poniatowski as well. This was a tremendous opportunity to share our hard work with the community and for our students to meet many state speaking standards. Overall it was a great show and we want to thank Dick Laros and the Sertoma club for their support.

SHILO RANCH STEPS UP TO HELP

One great item that came out of the Lehigh Valley Outdoor Expo. was a big donation from
the
Shilo Ranch. A hunting business near Pittsburgh, PA. Operations manager Bob Kabay, was so impressed with our students that he offered 5 hunts to our children for the upcoming season. As is always our procedure our staff was able to visit with the great folks of the Shilo Ranch to make sure all expectations were understood and details were hammered out. Looks like our kids found some more family in the hunting world. THANKS SHILO RANCH!!!
